Disagreeable Object 2009
A pint-sized performance installation with a massive twist, Disagreeable Object was a redevelopment of a truly original work by one of Australia's most intriguing dancers and independent choreographers, Michelle Heaven. Audiences were positioned in a tiny viewing space that afforded skewed glimpses into the bizarrely proportioned interior of an old-fashioned house. Through the clever use of mirrors and lighting, a sense of absurdly exaggerated scale and impossible physics transformed into scenes in which gravity itself began behaving badly. Performed by Heaven and actor Brian Lucas, the effect was of an old silent film that has been warped by the passage of time. Disagreeable Object was the second production for Next Move, a series of performances created by the next generation of Australian dance makers and presented by Chunky Move.
