Clear Pale Skin 2002
Clear Pale Skin documented the fallout that results in the pursuit of perfection. This notion of perfection is often present in conversations about dance and choreography, both in terms of the movement technique that comes out of the classical tradition and also in terms of the dancer as a model specimen of physical perfection. By contrast, the choreographic interest of Clear Pale Skin was the inherent flaws in this fiction as our imperfect bodies and capricious emotions serve to undermine our desires. This work was presented as part of a double bill WANTED alongside Australia's Most Wanted: ballet for a contemporary democracy.
WANTED was a double-bill that investigated what we want, whether as individuals and as a society, and its two works were thematically connected by their focus on the human pursuit of 'the ideal'.
