NON_TA_RESPONSE 2023

NON_TA_Response is a reimagining of components of Antony Hamilton’s 2019 major work Token Armies. In Token Armies, a movement language was constructed from the dialogue between living creatures and material objects. Central to the choreographic research is a fascination with how tools and machines inform human movement. This involves looking at realities and fictions that consider past, present and future demands for cooperation between biological and technological systems.

NON_TA_Response places elements of the Token Armies universe into the public realm that separates the postmodern Denton Corker Marshall-designed Melbourne Museum building (2001) and the Italianate World Heritage Melbourne Exhibition Building (1880).

NON_TA_Response creates a point of visual interference between these two iconic buildings, considering the long passage of time that separates them in their design, construction and cultural significance. The performance continues to explore a dramaturgy around the relationship between biology and technology, and the uncanny connections and dissonances between the living and the inanimate.
